Cigar Journal Traveling in NicaraguaMay 9, 2011. This week, Cigar Journal Editor Colin Ganley is traveling in Nicaragua. Each day he will report news of some of the news and activities going on in Cigar Country.Day 1 - Today I flew from Miami to Nicaragua and there were a couple cigar makers on the flight. One was the legendary Kiki Berger. Kiki is an owner of Cuban Crafters, Berger and Argenti, and many cigar brands. His factory outside Esteli Nicaragua is very large and situated among beautiful tobacco fields.I spoke with him about the purpose of his trip this week. He said, "I am only going down for 3 days because I need to check on the progress of the work going on in the factory. We are overhauling the factory interior and I need to make sure everything is going well. Also, I need to see my wife (who is in Nicaragua). I'll only be here for a few days this week but I'll be back for a month starting in a few weeks." Kiki also said that he has a new cigar ready to be released but he has had difficulties in obtaining boxes for the cigars from China. He is currently working on a solution for this problem in order to get the cigars to market in 2011. Now I will travel from the Airport to Esteli where I hope to learn more about the new products and general developments in Nicaragua... |
